The Ubiquiti UCG-Max is a Cloud Gateway (controller with cloud management support) designed for use within the UniFi system. It features 5 x 2.5G Ethernet ports (1/2.5 Gbps), including 1 WAN port and 4 LAN ports. One of the LAN ports can be switched to WAN mode to enable failover connection or load balancing. The device stands out for its high performance, equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and 3 GB of DDR4 RAM. The IDS/IPS throughput reaches 1.5 Gbps, and the gateway can manage up to 30 different UniFi devices. It also has a built-in 512 GB NVMe SSD, allowing the UCG-Max to record footage from UniFi cameras. The total maximum number of users is 300.
UniFi network
The offered product operates under UniFi software. UniFi enables centralized management of multiple devices from a single application. It is primarily designed for building hotspot networks consisting of access points, but it also supports surveillance systems—specifically the "Protect" series. With UniFi, you can create an extensive network and then control it from a single system. This makes any changes to configurations, hotspot settings, or firmware updates quick and seamless. The UniFi application is completely free and can be downloaded on a computer or as a mobile app.
UniFi Cloud Gateway
The UCK-Max combines the functions of a router and a UniFi controller with cloud support. It can manage up to 30 connected devices and a maximum of 300 users simultaneously. The core of the system is a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, supported by 3 GB of DDR4 RAM. According to the manufacturer's tests, the routing (IDS/IPS) throughput is 1.5 Gbps.
The UCG-Max supports advanced security features, allowing the gateway to be used as a VPN server (WireGuard, L2TP, or OpenVPN). A key advantage is its support for SD-WAN, which is particularly beneficial for users utilizing the UniFi system across geographically separated locations.
5x 2.5G Ethernet, load-balancing
The UCG-Max is equipped with 5 x 2.5G Ethernet ports, including 1 WAN port and 4 LAN ports. The interfaces can operate in either 1G or 2.5G mode, ensuring compatibility with older devices. One of the LAN ports can be switched to WAN mode, allowing for the use of two internet connections simultaneously. The UCG-Max supports load balancing, and the two WAN ports can also function in failover mode (if one connection fails, the other takes over).
The device is powered via a USB-C port, with an input voltage of 5 V DC, and a compatible power adapter is included in the package. It stands out for its low power consumption, with a maximum usage of 16.1 W.
512 GB NVMe SSD, LCD display
Inside the casing, there is a 512 GB NVMe SSD, allowing the gateway to also support UniFi cameras and store surveillance recordings without the need for an additional recorder. The device features a desktop-style enclosure, and on the front, there is a small 0.96" LCD display that shows the current operational status.
Usage
The UCG-Max is an excellent solution for office environments, combining the functionality of a router, controller, and IP recorder. The use of 2.5G Ethernet ports allows you to build a local network with a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps, which is a significant upgrade over standard 1G networks. With support for SD-WAN and multiple VPN standards, the UCG-Max serves as an ideal gateway for setting up sites in company branches located outside the main office.
