Description

Huawei S220-48P4S is a managed switch from the eKitEngine series. It features 48 gigabit Ethernet ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) and 4 SFP slots (1 Gbps). All Ethernet ports support PoE+, with a maximum power output of 15.4 W per port for 802.3af or 30 W for 802.3at. The total power budget for the entire device is 380 W, significantly more than what the more affordable S110 series offers. The switch ensures robust network security, supporting various authentication methods (based on MAC address or 802.1X) and is protected against various external attacks. You can manage the device using the Web UI, CLI, or SNMP. Additionally, it supports cloud management and the Huawei eKit app. The S220-48P4S has a built-in AC power supply, with a maximum power consumption of 462.8 W. It uses active cooling with intelligent fan speed adjustment. The device is primarily designed to function as an access switch in networks with multiple APs. It provides a substantial power budget, and the SFP slot allows for long-distance connections using fiber optic cables. In smaller networks, it can efficiently serve as the main and only switch, offering both PoE and essential management capabilities.

48x gigabit Ethernet, 4x SFP

The switch is equipped with 48 gigabit Ethernet ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) and 4 SFP slots (1 Gbps). It has a switching capacity of 104 Gbps and a packet forwarding rate of 77 Mpps. Using one of the SFP slots, you can establish connections over very long distances with fiber optic cables.

48 PoE+ outputs

All Ethernet ports provide PoE+ power output. The maximum output per port, according to standards, is 15.4 W with 802.3af or 30 W with 802.3at. The total power budget for the entire device is 380 W, significantly more than the S110 series solutions offer. This is sufficient to connect 24 APs using the 802.3af standard, and in most cases, you can connect even more devices, as power consumption typically remains below 15 W.

Using PoE allows you to deliver both power and data via a single Ethernet cable. With this type of switch, you only need to run one cable to each access point, eliminating the need for additional power supplies.

Layer 2 management

The device provides numerous Layer 2 management features, such as support for VLANs, multicast (IGMP Snooping), QoS functions, and access control lists (ACL). It supports Spanning Tree Protocols (STP / RSTP / MSTP) as well as the modern ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) standard defined in ITU-T G.8032.

The switch provides essential network security features. It protects against DoS attacks such as SYN flood, Land, Smurf, and ICMP flood. It also has safeguards against attacks targeting users, including DHCP server attacks, IP/MAC spoofing, DHCP request flood, and DHCP CHADDR.

Management is handled via a graphical Web interface, CLI, or using SNMP (v1, v2c, v3) / SSHv2.0. Devices from the S220 series can also be managed in the cloud, in which case you can additionally use the Huawei eKit app.

Usage

The S220-48P4S is designed to function as an access switch in networks comprising multiple eKitEngine APs. Layer 2 management access allows you to control operations and monitor the status of the entire network. eKitEngine solutions can be managed from a single interface, simplifying system configuration and ongoing maintenance.

Thanks to its ample power budget, the S220-48P4S allows you to easily connect 24 access points, and often even more in most situations. The switch is suitable for large networks, such as those found in hotels or schools. On the other hand, due to its access management capabilities, it can also function as the sole switch in small and medium-sized networks, without the need for a division into core and access switches.
