Description

MikroTik BaseBox 5 is a radio designed for operation in the 5 GHz band. It supports 802.11 a/n protocols and 2x2 MIMO (dual-chain), allowing a maximum theoretical transmission throughput of 300 Mb/s. Equipped with the RouterOS system and a Level 4 license, it can function as an AP. The upper part of the casing features two RP-SMA connectors for attaching an antenna. The device is distinguished by its high power output of up to 30 dBm, ensuring excellent transmission range. The primary application of the BaseBox 5 is as a base station in point-to-multipoint connections or for point-to-point links. It can also serve as a high-performance client device in locations significantly distant from the base station.

The radio is equipped with one gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000 Mb/s), which also functions as a PoE input. The device supports passive PoE with a voltage range of 8–30 V DC, making it the sole power delivery method. Inside the casing, there is an additional miniPCI-e slot and a mini SIM slot, allowing you to expand the radio's functionality with an additional operating band or implement a 3G/LTE backup. An additional feature is the USB port, providing further versatility.

The BaseBox 5 casing is fully designed for outdoor use, with all ports and connectors properly secured. The package includes a mount that allows the radio to be installed on a pole or DIN rail.

5 GHz Transmission, 802.11n, 2x2 MIMO, RP-SMA Connectors

The BaseBox 5 operates in the 5 GHz band, supporting IEEE 802.11 a/n protocols and 2x2 MIMO technology. The maximum theoretical connection throughput is 300 Mb/s. The 5 GHz band is widely used in telecommunications and does not require any licensing fees.

At the top of the enclosure are two RP-SMA connectors, allowing you to attach a suitable antenna based on your specific needs.

MiniPCI-e Slot, mini SIM Slot, USB Port

Inside the enclosure, there are miniPCI-e and mini SIM slots. These features allow you to expand the capabilities of the BaseBox 5 by adding a 2.4 GHz wireless interface or a 3G/LTE modem for backup connectivity. Additionally, a USB port is located at the bottom of the device, further enhancing its versatility.

Gigabit Ethernet Port, PoE Power Supply

The device features one gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000 Mb/s), which also functions as a PoE power input. It supports passive PoE with an input voltage range of 8–30 V DC. This is the only method of supplying power to the BaseBox 5. The package includes a compatible power adapter and PoE injector.

Weatherproof Enclosure, Pole/DIN Rail Mounting

The enclosure is fully designed for outdoor use, providing protection against water and dust ingress. UV-resistant plastic has been used to ensure durability. All ports are securely sealed to protect the antenna or Ethernet cable connections from potential damage.

With the accessories included in the BaseBox 5 package, the device can be mounted on a pole or DIN rail.

Usage

The radio features RouterOS with a Level 4 license, enabling it to operate in AP mode. Paired with a sector antenna, it can function as a base station in point-to-multipoint connections. It also performs exceptionally well in high-performance point-to-point links when equipped with suitable directional antennas. BaseBox 5's applications don't stop there. It can be used to create a wireless Wi-Fi network or serve as a high-performance client in point-to-multipoint networks. The miniPCI-e slot further enhances the device's capabilities, allowing for customization to meet specific user requirements.
