Opton TM290D is an optical time-domain reflectometer designed to measure wavelengths of 1310 / 1550 nm. The maximum measurement range is 60 km, the dynamic range is 22 / 20 dB. The device can only be used for singlemode fibers. An additional advantage is the ability to save up to 100 measurements.
The offered product has a built-in optical power meter and a laser light source. The power meter operates on the following wavelengths: 850 / 1300 / 1310 / 1490 / 1550 / 1625 nm, the range of optical power is from -70 to 10 dBm. The light source operates at 1310 or 1550 nm, the modulation is set automatically or manually at 270 Hz, 1 kHz or 2 kHz. In addition, the device is equipped with a visual fault locator (VFL) with a power of 10 mW. The locator can be lit continuously or blink in two different modes.
The device is equipped with a touch screen that allows you to handle all available functions. FC/UPC type connectors were used, SC/UPC connectors are included separately in the set (just unscrew one and screw in the other). The reflectometer has a cover for the housing and a strap for hanging on the shoulder.

Touchscreen
Opton TM290D is equipped with a color LCD touch screen, which in some situations facilitates the operation of the entire device. In addition, there are standard physical buttons - better suited to working conditions, especially if you are wearing gloves.
Included with the reflectometer you will find a cover that increases resistance to physical damage. You can also attach the device to a belt, which is designed to protect the equipment from falling. The built-in battery with a capacity of 4400 mAh allows for long work, you will find a charger in the set.
OTDR 1310 / 1550 nm, 22 / 20 dB dynamic range
The main and most important function of the TM290D is a OTDR that allows you to measure wavelengths of 1310 or 1550 nm. Power dynamics is 22 / 20 dB, it is sufficient to measure long distances. The reflectometer allows you to detect damage in the optical fiber and provide the meter on which the damage was detected. It is an essential tool for fiber optic network testing. The dead zone of the measurement is up to 12 meters, but we still suggest using launch cable with the device.
Optical power meter 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1610 nm
Another function is the OPM - Optical Power Meter. It allows you to measure the optical power and give its value in dBm or nW. It supports wavelengths of 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550 and 1610 nm. The large measurement range makes the TM290D suitable for many locations. The power meter will allow you to initially assess the correctness of the execution of a given section of fiber optic cable, it is also useful for assessing which SFP modules are needed in a given connection.
Laser source
The offered product can also be used as a laser light source 1310 / 1550 nm. In this mode, it will emit light which can then be picked up by another power meter.
Visual Fault Locator
The last function is VFL - visual fault locator. In this mode, the device emits visible light, thus you can check the continuity of a short section of fiber optic cable by visually checking if the light goes from one end to the other. With the TM290D you can reduce the number of tools you carry with you, you will no longer need a separate fault locator.
